Why Sustainable Fashion is Important #1: Women-Made Matters

Did you know that countries with greater equality between women and men have economies that are more competitive and fast-growing? Perhaps it comes down to one fact: Working women in developing countries invest 90% of their earnings back into their families, compared with 35% for men. That is a stunning difference. By investing in girls and women, we - together - can spur economic progress and improve health, education and quality of live for everyone.

The Important Role Fashion Can Play
Fashion as it is today, unfortunately, aggravating inequalities. Women make up 80% of garment workers. Only 2% of all garment workers earn a living wage. That means a disproportionate number of women does not earn a living, does not have the ability to invest in their families or communities, thus, setting up the next generation to face a similar feat. To change that would be, in theory, pretty simple. Paying garment workers, a living wage shouldn't be extraordinary, it should be the norm.

We Empower Women To Build Better Lives
It is part of our mission to make the world a better place, bringing lasting change to the communities we work with - by bringing you fashion that looks and does good. We believe the fashion industry can be a force for good rather than trapping the people (and the planet) in a downward spiral. This is why we pay all of our workers and makers a fair wage. We even go beyond: all of our partners offer training and mentoring to their workers helping them build a better life. Because we all are better off when we help each other succeed.
